Aachen

Feel history come alive in Aachen.

It was 1944 in the throngs of World War II. And some of the fiercest fighting took place here in the Hürtgen Forest near Aachen. It was a day long remembered as the “All Souls Day Battle.” Today, the effects of months of fighting remain visible. A memorial path through the Hürtgen Forest serves as a reminder of the battle and its aftermath. A museum in Hürtgenwald features the exhibit “Hürtgen Forest 1944 and in Peace.” The exhibit shows objects of the German and American armies that have been found in the surrounding area and also includes weapons, documents, models of houses and vehicles and a replica of a dugout.

Step into the history of this quiet place, alive with the distant reminders of a turbulent time.
