Since the early days of the United States, Germans have actively participated in U.S. politics. Important politicians include Carl Schurz, who helped Abraham Lincoln's campaign, and, more recently, Henry Kissinger who served as Secretary of State and received a Nobel Peace Prize. Other German Americans also contributed greatly to American politics.
