Wolfgang Joop was born in Potsdam, Germany, and is one of Germany’s most famous fashion designers. His collections mingle clear lines as well as colorful experiments, which make Joop famous in America and around the world.
The designer began his career as an editor for a fashion magazine. In 1978, at age 33, he made his breakthrough in the fashion industry. Joop presented his own fur collection to the public. In spring of 1982, he presented his first ready-to-wear women’s collection followed by his first men’s collection a few years later. In 1998, he sold 95% of his company, in 2001 the rest. In addition to fashion, JOOP! produces perfumes, accessories and cosmetics.
Joop is also a well-known illustrator. The Hamburg Museum of Art hosts more than 100 exhibits. He also earned attention for his writing; his books include the gift book “Das kleine Herz” (“The little Heart”, 2001), the cookbook “Hectic Cuisine” (2002), his autobiography “Stillstand des Flüchtigen” (“Stillstand of a Runaway”, 2002), and the novel “Im Wolfspelz” (2003). His daughter Jette Joop is also successful fashion designer.
