German artists have influenced and contributed to art history in America for a long time. You may not recognize his name but Emanuel Leutze's legacy lives on in the famous painting, Washington Crossing the Delaware, which now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is said to be one of the most recognizable symbols of the American Revolution.
